Winner Zinc

Dimension (L x W x H): 115 mm x 105 mm x 51 mm

Weight: 199,5 gram

Alloy: Zinc Z410

Description:
An internal cable guide must be realized in the casting. Due to the geometry of the article, this cavity cannot be created conventionally by casting and not mechanically.

Design, casting and molding requirements:
Special feature: decorative die-cast component with Future technology (encapsulated plastic core) to fulfill the functionality of "cable routing" in addition to decorative aspects.

  • The cavity in the component for the cable guide is realized by means of a two-part plastic insert, which is inserted into the die casting mold before the start of the casting cycle and then encapsulated with zinc.
  • The die casting mold must accommodate the plastic core in such a way that it remains in position during the casting process (required for tolerance-compliant mechanical machining as a subsequent process).
  • From a design point of view, technology-relevant parameters must be taken into account (high pressure/high temperature).
  • Despite complex geometry (especially also from the electroplating point of view), the surface must meet very high standards, which places high demands on the die casting mold.
  • The product could not be manufactured in the form realized without the use of Future technology in die casting.
  • Both the component and the die casting mold had to be specially designed for Future Technology (e.g. wall thicknesses, retaining elements for the plastic insert, subsequent processes, etc.).
  • Very high decorative requirements in combination with functional elements for assembly as well as the realization of a cavity for the passage of a cable (through the plastic insert).

Reasons for manufacturing in die casting:

  • Production of a high-quality, tactile metal surface (Cool Touch)
  • Compliance with very tight tolerances (dimensional accuracy)
  • Production of the "cable guide" function (functional accuracy)
